The Mill River Watershed Association (MRWA) seeks a research assistant-technician to conduct a project to understand and reduce plastic pollution in urban areas and consequent marine debris. The ideal candidate would have a master’s degree in hydrology, water resources, civil or environmental engineering, natural resources, ecosystem science or a similar field as well as knowledge conducting field research. Experience with spreadsheet analysis of data, graphing program(s), and PowerPoint is necessary as well. Familiarity with GIS is desirable, but not required. The research requires a driver’s license. The technician would work under the direction of Professor Benoit (https://resources.environment.yale.edu/benoit-lab), but would have considerable autonomy and would oversee the work of advanced undergraduate or master’s students.
The position would be full or half time for a period of two years and is based in New Haven, Connecticut. Salary is competitive and commensurate with experience and includes a stipend for benefits.

These positions are unpaid but provide important career experience while helping to significantly reduce an important source of water pollution. Our sites are located in under-resourced neighborhoods and help to ameliorate environmental justice inequities.
